2000 AD Goes Online

“The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic” has announced that it’s teamed up with webcomic specialists Clickwheel to produce digital versions of 2000AD, the United Kingdom’s long-running cult sci-fi weekly anthology comic.

2000 AD has featured Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper, Strontium Dog and hundreds of other characters over the past 25 years. With this new digital initiative, digital copies of 2000AD will be available one week after the printed version, allowing fans across the world to get their Thrill-fix sooner than ever before.

The first downloadable issue will be available on www.clickwheel.net or via direct links from www.2000ADonline.com on Wednesday 19 December 2007, and will continue weekly from then on. This will mark the first time ever that a sci-fi comic will be available weekly in both print and online versions.

Jeff Smith Ready To “Rassle”

The news was anticipated by comics fans around the world. In July at San Diego Comic-Con, Jeff Smith released a preview of his first independent comics work since he ended his 12-year run on Bone in 2004, and fans of the epic fantasy series cheered his promised return.

Titled RASL, which Smith pronounces "rassle," the new series is being self-published in black and white by Smith through his company, Cartoon Books. Focusing on a character who hops across parallel dimensions to steal art, the series is tentatively planned to run for approximately two years and, like Bone, will be solely created by Smith.

Ready To Defend...Again!

Marvel released their March solicitations last week and revealed that the Defenders will rise again in their own series with what looks to be the most creative team made since the original squad came together. Consisting of Nighthawk, She-Hulk, Colossus, and the Blazing Skull, the Last Defenders, as the book will be called, will come together on the eve of what is to be Marvel’s new cross over event, Secret Invaision.

Dr. Who Rides Again

Dr. Who will return to comics in January, embarking on brand new adventures exclusively created for the US market.

The solicitation for the issue read as follows:

Doctor Who #1
Gary Russell (w); Nick Roche (a); Nick Roche (c)

The legendary Doctor Who is back, with the first-ever stories created exclusively for the US market. The Doctor is the last of the Time Lords, survivors of a Great Time War and, along with his loyal friend and companion Martha Jones from London, they stop oppression, darkness and evil spreading throughout the galaxies. They're also on the hunt for the best chocolate milkshakes in the cosmos… and while they track that down, someone else has the Doctor in their sights. As the very last Time Lord out there, he's highly collectable, to the right people... this debut miniseries comes to you courtesy of Doctor Who TV show story editor Gary Russell and artist Nick Roche (The Transformers). Roche and variant artist Joe Corroney provide covers for each issue.
